AgCarolina Farm Credit is proud to have Courtney as a part of our team as a summer intern. The Johnston County native shares information here about her background and interest in agriculture.
My name is Courtney Thornton, and I am a loan officer intern in the Smithfield and Raleigh branch offices. I am currently a senior at NC State University studying agricultural business management with a minor in ag leadership and economics.
I have always been interested in North Carolina agriculture and try to learn as much as I can about it. I enjoy learning about the different crops, livestock, and products made in NC.
So far, I have attended the Intern and New Hire training in Columbia, SC. At the training, we learned about the history of Farm Credit, more about the patronage system, and the 5 C’s of credit—just to name a few. We also toured the AgFirst Farm Credit Bank. Outside of the office, my internship has included an inspection on a rural home building site, and I attend an equipment valuation on a produce farm. I also had the chance to attend the opening day of the Farm Credit Farmer’s Market in Goldsboro, NC!
All of the AgCarolina interns meet once a week to work on our personal finance high school curriculum project. We are creating a textbook and workbook for high school students to educate them about personal finance. We hope that our project will introduce them to several topics that some students are never exposed to or are exposed to later in life.
I can’t wait to see where the rest of my journey takes me with the AgCarolina family!
