Roots Run Deep- Loni Nixon

In the heart of Gates County, the Askew family has been a cornerstone in the agricultural community for decades, known for serving the community, deep family roots and decades of row crop farming.

Loni Nixon, an AgCarolina Farm Credit loan officer in Elizabeth City, is proud to continue to serve agriculture, a passion deeply rooted in her family’s history.

Loni fondly recalls growing up on the farm, “Whether it is taking food to the field, helping move equipment, or jumping on a tractor, everyone does what they can to make sure the farming operation never stops. It is a big part of our lives and will continue to be for as long as we are able.”

This strong farming foundation and hands-on experience prepared Loni for her role at AgCarolina, where she started her career in 2020 after earning a degree in Agribusiness Management from NC State University.

“I enjoy working at AgCarolina for the opportunities to build relationships throughout the community. This is a big part of my role, getting out, talking to people, making them aware of the products we have to offer and assuring AgCarolina members that we are here to help.”

Loni and her husband, Gevin, welcomed their first child, Baylor, into the world. They look forward to sharing with him the farm and the legacy their family has built over generations.

“At 2 months old, Baylor took his first of many rides in the sprayer. It is important to my husband and I that he grows up knowing the importance of agriculture to our community and the hard work that goes along with it. Along with my cousin’s children, they are the future of our multi-generational farm, should they choose to follow in their grandpas’ and uncles’ footsteps.”

Loni is proud of her deep agricultural roots and eager to share this passion with Baylor, our communities and in serving the members of AgCarolina Farm Credit.
